Skills for Rhode Island’s Future (SkillsRI) partners with State government agencies, Institutions of Higher Education and Rhode Island-based organizations to recruit for a myriad of job training programs that are designed to introduce new skills or build upon existing skill-sets of eligible Rhode Islanders in a specific trade or field of study. While the programs vary in length, depth, and scope, all programs commence with job placement support from SkillsRI. These trainings are available at no cost to Rhode Island residents who are unemployed or underemployed.
Length: 10-Week Program
Training programs in pharmacy fundamentals enable participants who successfully complete the program and required tests to become nationally certified pharmacy technicians. Pharmacy technician training introduces students to various pharmacy practice settings and covers drug classes, basic physiology, drug interactions, and daily pharmacy operations. This program trains individuals to effectively assist in pharmaceutical preparations and complete daily required tasks in any pharmacy environment. Help keep your fellow-Rhode Islanders healthy and happy as a pharmacy technician!
As part of this training, participants are required to participate in an externship for 120 hours. Upon conclusion of this training, participants will be assisted for the national certification exam.
Length: 10-Week & 20-Week Programs
CNC Machinist Training Programs are designed to offer classroom training and shop experience that prepare participants for entry-level positions in advanced manufacturing careers throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts. Candidates will learn new skills including OSHA 10 certification, CNC and manual machine processes, reading blueprints, drill press, lathe/turning, vertical milling, surface grinding, and job preparation.
The 20-week training may offer a stipend.
Length: 5-Week Program
RI Makers Training Program includes classroom and shop training that prepares participants for entry-level welding positions in various industries throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts. Candidates will learn new skills including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-corded arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), oxy-fuel welding (OFC) processes, shop safety, welding and cutting safety, safely handling fuel gasses and high-pressure cylinders.

The Shipbuilding / Marine Trades and Advanced Manufacturing Institute (SAMI) was established by New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) to train workers hired by regional manufacturers. To support the year-round marine trades and boating industries across the Ocean State, the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association offers various 3-week job training programs that are hands-on and prepare participants for entry-level positions at boatyards, shipyards, marinas, manufacturers, yachts clubs and other companies operating within the marine and composites industries throughout Rhode Island.
Length: 10 Week Program
Are you a “people person” with communication and problem-solving skills? The call center training program is ideal for individuals interested in entering into the customer service industries. Sales, customer service essentials, call center basics and job readiness will be covered in this training. Participants will learn how to strengthen their customer service skills by participating in interactive training that incorporates blended learning opportunities such as in-classroom instruction, role-play, simulations, and self-paced activities.
